I have recently started to attend conventions, mostly literature con’s. Ad Astra to be precise. Last year 2014 my mother and I went, and we again went back this year.
Meeting new people is the best part about con’s, and then for me meeting authors of much-loved books. last year was Patricia Briggs- she is the author of several series of urban fantasy, but also some fantasy novels. Her books are perfect, as either an escape or sometimes a deeper read. Also Patty is a just all around nice person.
This year’s meet was Anne Bishop, this author again as written some fantasy but has recently switched into urban fantasy. Anne has a short story that makes me cry every single time, it’s that good. I got to reconnect with Marie, who hails from the Ottawa region and has written a serialized novel about the breakdown of the wall/veil/barrier between old school faerie and our world. So creepy and nail-biting.
Wha was the best part about this con, being able to connect with authors and have them recognize you, stop to chat and getting to sign various pieces of swag. The con was well run, tons of fun and so jam-packed it’s crazy. Looking forward to another one next year.
